Making Manageable New Year’s Resolutions: A Four-Part Blog

Okay, I know I keep saying that each topic is the most difficult for me. The thing is, discipline and strong will power does not come easily to everyone. SHOCKER, I know. I tend to fluctuate my weight, depending on the seasons and what’s going on in my life. Although I know that’s not the healthiest way to live, it is what it is. When I am feeling ambitious and responsible, I try to keep it simple. When I attempt to become a master work out queen, I fail and feel even worse than I did before. Setting reasonable goals is key when you are starting ANY new endeavor. This portion of the four-part blog, as I am sure you’ve guessed, is:

KEEPING ACTIVE

I try to make sure all of the tools and resources I tell you guys about will be no cost to you. This is one exception, you will want to get a fitness tracker. It doesn’t have to be a super fancy name brand one, though! You can get them pretty cheap. They can range anywhere from $3.00 to over $150. As long as it tracks your steps and heart rate, you should be okay. Now, my first foray into the fitness world was held back somewhat by the fact that the fitness tracker I used was not compatible with the app I was using to track my progress. The App I use is great, MyFitnessPal, you can meal plan on it and keep track of your progress with your workouts and you can track your caloric intake as well. The app also has a list of fitness trackers it is compatible with so that you can link them together! I have to say it was eye-opening to see my daily activity and caloric intake laid out in front of me. It also helped to see where I was at vs. where I wanted to be.

I once had a gym membership for 2 years and I went exactly once the entire time. I was pushed WAY too hard my first time there and never wanted to go back again. Although it is nice to have equipment and trainers at your disposal, sometimes you just can’t afford it or don’t feel comfortable in that setting. That is okay, everyone has a way that works for them. One rule I live by, when working out or even just doing cardio is, if your heart rate isn’t up and you’re not sweating, you’re not challenging yourself.

I was shown a couple of videos on YouTube that were effective. It’s a lot easier for me to do them in the morning when the house is quiet but it is best to do them at night as well. I start with “Yoga For Complete Beginners – 20 Minute Home Workout.” This one wakes me up and gets the blood pumping. It really helps get me ready for the next video, which I love. You don’t have to use and weights, it uses your body weight in the workout! “20-minute total body active static workout at-home bodyweight workout.” Not going to lie, the first couple of times I did this one I had a tough time, but that’s the point! Both of the people that made these videos have a lot more you can use if these ones stop challenging you!

Well, there you have it! I do not claim to be an expert on this topic and people should find what works best for them, but this is a good place to start! This blog was made possible by my sister who showed me the tools I still use to this day (when I’m in my active phase that is), thanks Candice!
