Vehicle Maintenance TIps from Easton Motors
More vehicle problems are caused by failure to perform
routine maintenance than for any other reason.
A little time and money spent on regular maintenance may save you a lot of
time and money for unexpected, major repairs to your vehicle.
For best results, follow these basic guidelines:
1) Check
your oil every time you refuel.
2) Change
the oil and filter every 3,000 miles of 90 days.
3) Change
the transmission fluid and filter every 18,000 miles or once a year.
4) Flush
your radiator and refill with a 50/50 mixture of coolant/water every 18,000
miles or once a year.
5) Keep
your tires properly inflated and replace worn tires without delay. Rotate your tires every 6,000 miles or twice
a year.
6) If
any dash warning lights come on or you hear an unusual noise that isn’t common
with everyday use, contact Goodyear
Tire & Gemini Automotive Service
Center at 608-254-2484 as
soon as possible.
7) Watch
the ground where you park your vehicle.
If a spot forms on the ground under your vehicle, something may be
leaking. All fluid leaks should be
investigated as soon as possible.
8)
If the oil pressure or temperature light comes on
while you are driving, pull over and
turn off the engine immediately.
Take pride in your vehicle and service it regularly. Doing these maintenance basics will increase
your trade-in value at the end of your contract.
MAINTENANCE WARNING
Engines overheat for many reasons including, but not limited
to, a broken radiator hose, a malfunctioning thermostat or oil sending unit, or
running the air conditioner for extended periods of time when the vehicle is
not moving.
Some of these reasons are inexpensive to fix. If you choose to continue to drive with an
overheated engine, expect the fix to b expensive – often the entire engine must
be replaced.
Do not allow unqualified people to work on your vehicle.
Do not let others drive your vehicle. Friends borrow vehicles all the time, but
after taking it through a ditch or hitting the curb, it is hard to tell the
owner. Damage may be caused that is not
outwardly apparent, but it may eventually surface as a costly repair.
Always remember to pull over and turn off the vehicle if any
indicators point to overheating.
